2012 BDM Scholarship Winner: Dominic Chartrand, Local 500

Montreal – February 25, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 500 president Antonio Filato proudly presented Dominic Chartrand – the son of Céline Dupuis, who works at the produce department at Super C in Lachute – with a $1,000 scholarship. Sister Dupuis has been working under Metro banners for 13 years.

Dominic is currently enrolled as a student in the teaching of French as a second language at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He is now into his third year of a four-year bachelor’s degree (120 credits). He is also already taking courses in order to obtain a master’s degree in language teaching at the UQAM.

After finishing his studies, Dominic will be able to teach French as a second language to students in elementary and secondary schools as well as in colleges. To prepare for his future career in education, Dominic already acts as a supply teacher at schools in his region.

Every year five $1,000 scholarships are offered to UFCW Canada members in Quebec and their children who are full-time students at a university, a college or any other recognized post-secondary educational institution.
