Social service members at Visions of Independence make gains – UFCW 832
Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Man. – November 26, 2020 – UFCW Local 832 members working at Visions of Independence have achieved a new union contract that provides an improved retirement plan, increased bereavement leave, and more.
The new collective agreement was recently ratified by mail-in ballot through a series of town hall meetings.
“I’m proud of the new agreement that our bargaining team was able to reach with the employer,” says UFCW 832 Union Negotiator Phil Kraychuk. “This pandemic has proven to be difficult in many ways, and reaching a fair agreement is a huge accomplishment,” he adds.
The new agreement brings:
- A contract language cleanup that clarifies the issue of weather closures;
- The removal of a $500 cap on the registered retirement savings plan (RRSP);
- Members can bank their statutory holiday time when they work a stat holiday;
- More bereavement leave inclusions for members of the bargaining unit.
UFCW Local 832 members work in the day programs and group homes provided by Visions of Independence, offering support to individuals in their care at locations in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
