Workers at Jolibec Hatchery in Quebec vote “Yes!” to Local 501

Montreal – March 19, 2013 – Hatchery workers in the Quebec region of St-Félix-de-Valois have become the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 501 by recently voting “Yes!” to the leading voice for workers and their families.

The new Local 501 members work for Jolibec Hatchery, which specializes in the breeding and resale of chicks.

“We are pleased and proud to welcome to the Jolibec members to the Local 501 family,” says Local 501 President Alain Lachaîne. “By choosing to join North America’s strongest voice for workers, the Jolibec employees have taken a monumental step in creating more fairness and stability in their workplace and industry.”

The new Jolibec members join more than 11,000 Local 501 members throughout Quebec, and more than 1.3 million UFCW members across North America, as an important part of the world’s leading force for retail, food and commercial workers: fighting for employee rights, greater health and safety protections, and stronger communities.
