2012 BDM scholarship winner: Rebecca Landry, Local 1000A

Oshawa, Ont. – March 20, 2013 – Rebecca Landry is one of 18 Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) Scholarships winners for 2012. Sister Landry is a Member of UFCW Canada Local 1000A who works at the Real Canadian Superstore in Oshawa, Ont.

“I think it’s incredible UFCW Canada offers these scholarships,” says Rebecca, in her first year of the Biomedical Engineering Technology program at Durham College. “I was really surprised to win because there are a lot of employees who could apply for this.”

“This scholarship completes paying for my tuition next year,” says Landry. “It takes a lot of stress out of my life.”

Local 1000A Recorder Dan Gilbert (pictured with Rebecca, and Local 1000A union representative Carla MacFarlane) presented Sister Landry with the BDM scholarship. “On behalf of Local 1000A, I am pleased to congratulate Rebecca on her tremendous achievement and wish her the very best as she makes her way through her program,” says Brother Gilbert.

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 annual BDM scholarships of $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post secondary study.
