Connie Maile, 1952 – 2013

ufcw local 1977 connie maile Cambridge, Ont. – April 2, 2013 – Long-time UFCW Canada activist and friend Connie Maile passed away peacefully on March 28 in the company of loved ones at the Grand River Hospital in Cambridge, Ontario.

Predeceased by her parents Elsie and Russell Moore, Sister Maile is deeply missed by her loving husband Paul Sr., her beloved sons Paul Jr. (Leah) and Christopher (Tiffany), daughter-in-law Tricia Maile and her cherished grandchildren Katrina, Keasha, Jared, and Deleah. Connie also leaves behind her sisters Linda, Sharon (David), Carol (Chris), her brother Dennis, five nieces, four nephews, and her mother-in-law Ivy Maile, best friends Linda Hedderson and Christine Kitchen, and many UFCW Canada sisters and brothers throughout Ontario and across the country.

Sister Maile is fondly remembered by UFCW Canada members as a strong advocate for the rights of workers, and popular union representative for UFCW Canada Local 1977.

Originally from the industrial sector, Connie started her outstanding commitment to union activism and the labour movement as a proud member of UFCW Canada Local 173W (which, in the 1990s, voted to strengthen its voice by merging with Local 1977).

As a union representative for Local 1977, Sister Maile is lovingly remembered for her ‘Happy Monday’ greetings, dynamic spirit, willingness to go the distance for the membership, and fearlessness when it came to standing up to difficult managers.

Sister Maile also proudly served the national membership as a leading force on the UFCW Canada National Women’s Committee.

Connie's family will receive relatives and friends at the Barthel Funeral Home (519- 653-3251) 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The Service to Celebrate Connie's Life will take place at Saint John's Anglican Church, 567 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the Maile family.
