2012 BDM Union Scholarship Winner: Lizzie Hayward, Local 401

ufcw canada union scholarships Lizzie Hayward local 401Calgary – April 11, 2013 – Lizzie Hayward is one of 18 Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) Scholarships winners for 2012. Lizzie is the daughter of UFCW Canada Local 401 Member Bill Hayward, a retail meat-cutter for Safeway Canada, who is a leading activist for the union in the stores and the Calgary community.

“The personal importance of the Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu scholarship to me is that it is helping me to attain my educational goals by providing funds for very costly necessities such as textbooks,” says Lizzie, who is studying Anthropology at the University of Calgary.

“I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to the UFCW and the Beggs, Dowling and Mathieu Scholarship Program for helping to achieve my post-secondary goals, and I feel very lucky to have been chosen to be a recipient,” adds Lizzie.

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 annual BDM scholarships of $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post secondary study.
