Toronto – April 18, 2013 – As Canada’s most progressive voice for workers, UFCW Canada is proud to join our social justice and sustainability allies in celebrating Earth Day on April 22.

Now in its 43rd year, Earth Day is an opportunity to honour our beautiful planet and take action to protect it. From Tokyo to Anchorage, more than one billion people in communities around the world will be voicing their concerns for the planet and calling on political leaders to boldly work together in preserving the environment that we all share and love. This year's theme focuses on exposing "The Face of Climate Change" and is aimed at inspiring collective worldwide action in addressing global warming.

To commemorate this important day of international action, UFCW Canada is offering a new Earth Day image that Local Unions can display as a poster and share with members through social media networks like Facebook and Pinterest. Dubbed "It's Our Choice," the new Earth Day image is now available in both French and English and can be downloaded at www.ufcw.ca/posters.

As UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley explains, "our union believes in building a world that is not only fair and equitable, but also sustainable. By standing with millions of individuals, communities, organizations, and governments on Earth Day to acknowledge the amazing planet that we call home, UFCW Canada is sending a message to our federal and provincial governments that responsible environmental stewardship is key to fostering a healthy and just society."
