Toronto - May 29, 2013 – UFCW Canada members, friends and allies are invited to join the celebration of National Aboriginal History Month by displaying UFCW Canada's newest poster to honour and raise awareness of Canada's Aboriginal peoples and history.

The poster is freely available to download and print, in both English and French. You can also show your support by using the Aboriginal History Month poster image as profile picture for Facebook and other social media sites.

In 2010, June was declared National Aboriginal History month, after Nanaimo-Cowichan NDP Member of Parliament, Jean Crowder, introduced a motion to make June a month of recognition for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. The motion received unanimous consent in the House of Commons.

"Aboriginal History Month provides all of us an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the tremendous contributions our First Nation, Inuit and Métis brothers and sisters have made and continue to make to our union, to our communities, and to our country," says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley.

"It is also a time to reinforce our ongoing solidarity with our Aboriginal brothers and sisters in their historic and continuing efforts to gain equal treatment when it comes to healthcare, education, and the other vital community services."
