Toronto – June 3, 2013 – UFCW Canada activists from across Ontario joined hundreds of community members in front of the province’s legislature, Queen’s Park, on Saturday, June 1 to call for justice for injured workers by participating in the 30th anniversary of Injured Workers Day.

Highlighting the shameful state of the province’s workers compensation system, the demonstrators performed a street theatre production that emphasized the immediate need for relief for thousands of injured workers in Ontario who struggle to survive well below the poverty line.

“An attack on the most vulnerable in our society is an attack on all of us, and it diminishes us as a society," said UFCW Canada Local 175 representative and injured workers advocate Sheree Backus in addressing the large crowd of demonstrators. "We need to continue the fight because we need justice for injured workers.”
