National Loblaw meeting builds strategy, solidarity

Toronto – July 3, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local Unions representing workers at Loblaw Companies Limited recently met to discuss grievances, arbitrations, negotiations, and other collective bargaining issues concerning the employees of Canada's largest food retailer.

The bi-annual meeting brought together Local Unions from across the country and was coordinated by the National Office. Members, officers, and staff from Canada's leading retail union strategized on common bargaining issues and shared information and experiences to best represent Loblaw members in the next round of negotiations with the company.

"These meetings provide us with a chance to discuss the many issues affecting UFCW Canada members at Loblaw grocery stores and warehouses from coast to coast," says Robert Armstrong, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Canada Local 500. "Through detailed discussion, the meetings allow us to explore emerging issues with the company – from employee rights to  health and safety matters – and are extremely beneficial to everyone involved."
