Ramada Inn workers forced on strike in Eastern Ontario

Ramada Inn workers forced on strike in Eastern OntarioTrenton, Ont. – October 3, 2013 – On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, approximately 35 UFCW Canada Local 175 members at the Ramada Inn situated in Trenton, Ontario commenced legal strike action against their employer, Royal Host.

Without a collective agreement since March 13, 2013, negotiations have been particularly difficult. While the employer first agreed to a tentative settlement, it then resulted in a withdraw of what was agreed upon, only to come back and try to impose deep concessions on the workers.

As a consequence of this, the employer has been charged for bad-faith bargaining by the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB)

“It’s time for employers like these to stop disrespecting and harassing good and hardworking employees,” says Local 175 President Shawn Haggerty. “Please join us in supporting our brothers and sisters through these difficult times and remembering the importance of always fighting for fairness, dignity, and respect in the workplace and our everyday lives.”
