New union contract for UFCW 832 healthcare workers at Vista Park Lodge

Winnipeg – October 22, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 832 members at Vista Park Lodge recently voted 97 percent in favour of a new and improved collective agreement, ending a strike that began on September 14.

The committees reached a tentative agreement on October 12, and on October 15 the members voted yes to a three-year deal.

The new union contract:

• All members receive a wage increase of 2.5% immediately and it guarantees another 1.25% increase on April 1, 2014;
• Members will receive retroactive pay and a signing bonus;
• In addition, all shift premiums gain an increase;
• All members now have maternity leave top-up and paid pre-retirement leave of absence;

“The picketers received enormous support from other unions during the strike,” says Local 832 President Jeff Traeger. “I believe this is one reason the employer woke up and came back to table.”
