Vancouver – December 12, 2013 – Activists, artists, authors, poets, friends, family, and community members recently gathered at Vancouver's Central Library for the launch of a new bilingual anthology which explores issues of identity, eroticism, resistance, humour and fate.

Shoes on the Rocks (Zapatos en las piedras) is a collection of unique personal stories told through the eyes of six Latino-Canadians who have lived and worked for many years in the Vancouver area: Heinz Avendano, Dafne Blanco, Yoly Garcia, Monica Paz, Rosas Rojas and Raul Gatica, who also coordinated the anthology.

UFCW Canada was a sponsor of the project. Over the years, UFCW Canada has supported a number of cultural initiatives to give a voice to the story of working people in Canada, including migrant workers, and immigrants to Canada. Shoes on the Rocks adds to that conversation.

"Reading these stories brings us closer to newcomers," wrote Wayne Hanley, the former UFCW Canada national president in his introduction to the anthology. "Let's celebrate the union of these voices to others, striving to make this land belong to us all."

Shoes on the Rocks is available from the Spartacus Bookstore in Vancouver, www.spartacusbooks.net.
