Brantford, Ont. – March 28, 2014 – Brittany Lancaster is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2013. Currently completing the Personal Support Worker Program at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, Brittany plans to enroll in the college's Nursing Program next year. She is a proud UFCW Canada Local 206 member who works at Swiss Chalet Restaurant #1771 in Brantford, Ontario.
"I am very grateful for winning the BDM Scholarship because there have been many obstacles that I have overcome in the past year," says Sister Lancaster. In March 2013, Brittany's father, Ron Lancaster Jr., passed away suddenly. "As a former CFL coach and teacher, my dad greatly influenced my life and inspired me to keep pursuing my education," she explains.
"I have never won anything in my entire life, and I truly believe that the angel watching over me helped me win this award," Sister Lancaster adds. "I would like to thank UFCW Canada for selecting me as a scholarship recipient, as the money will really help me in pursuing my nursing education."
Brittany was recently presented with the $1,000 union scholarship cheque by UFCW Canada Local 206 Union Representative Cliff Kostyniuk, who is pictured here with Sister Lancaster.
Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education.
