Montreal – May 13, 2014 – Roxanne Deschamps is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2013. Sister Deschamps is currently enrolled in the Fine Arts Program at Cégep de St-Hyacinthe in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, where she is specializing in Visual and Media Arts. She is the daughter of Richard Deschamps, a proud Local 501 member who has worked at the Sobeys produce warehouse in Boucherville, Quebec for over 20 years.
"I plan to enroll at a university in the fall to complete a Bachelor of Education degree, and I would eventually like to work as an elementary school teacher or in communications," says Roxanne. "The union scholarship money will help me achieve my educational goals without having to stress about financial issues," she adds.
Roxanne was recently presented with the $1,000 union scholarship cheque by UFCW Canada Local 501 President Alain Lachaîne and Secretary-Treasurer Mario Délisle, who are pictured here with Sister Deschamps.
Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education.
