Toronto – October 8, 2014 – World Mental Health Day is annually observed by more than 100 countries every October 10, and was first observed by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992.
Woodbridge, Ont. – October 7, 2014 – Workers at another LensCrafters eyewear store in Southern Ontario have voted to join UFCW Canada Local 1000A. By winning their union certification vote, LensCrafters associates at the Pickering Town Centre have joined with Local 1000A members at five other unionized LensCrafters locations.
Montreal – October 6, 2014 – Members working at the Super 8 Lachenaie have been certified as a UFCW Canada Local 501 bargaining unit by the Quebec Labour Relations Board, after a majority of the workers said “yes” to joining the union.
Woodbridge, Ont. – October 6, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 1000A’s 8th Annual Stewards Conference was very special for stewards, staff and leaders alike since this year is the 70th anniversary of UFCW Canada’s second-largest local union.
Toronto — October 4, 2014 — The cost of going to university in Canada varies dramatically depending on which province a student is enrolled in. During the past ten years, average tuition fees in Canada have almost tripled. At the same time, public funding of post-secondary education has dropped significantly.
Winnipeg and Quebec City – October 3, 2014 – UFCW Canada activists, over one evening in two different provinces, raised more than $80,000 for leukemia research at Light the Night events in Winnipeg and Quebec City.
Halifax – October 1, 2014 – Right now, the Nova Scotia government is racing to strip the democratic rights of 24,000 healthcare workers in the province. The newly elected Liberal government has introduced Bill 1, which would take away the right of workers to choose which union should represent them.
