UFCW 1000A loud and proud at Brockville Pride parade

Woodbridge, Ont.  – July 23, 2014 – Rainbow flags flew high over Brockville, as UFCW Canada Local 1000A members, activists and staff joined many others in marching through the city’s downtown.

“It is about standing up for human rights, gay rights and equality for everybody,” said Ian Stables, a Local 1000A activist and member of the Pride Advisory Group who helped organize the local union’s participation in the July 19 event.

2014 marked the fourth year for the Brockville Pride Parade and the third year Local 1000A has participated in the event.

“At the end of the day, pride is about love, inclusiveness and humanity – that’s what the whole movement is about,” said Jackie Graticola, a member of Local 1000A’s Pride Advisory Group, who joined with other Local 1000A activists at the event.

For Kelly Allen, Brockville was her first Pride event.

“I wanted to support my sisters and brothers who are from the LGBTQ community,” said Allen, a Local 1000A activist from Ottawa.
