Many of our members find the courses at webCampus as a way to develop their professional skills and add to their resume. For this reason, we have designed five certificate programs to assist our members with reaching their potential. There are no costs associated with these UFCW-recognized certificates. Human Rights Advocate Certification
Program Description
Creating awareness of inequities, supporting human rights advocacy and allyship are core characteristics of human rights activists. Participants will be introduced to the challenges facing diverse communities such as LGBTQI2S workers, Migrant workers, and Indigenous Peoples. The Objectives of this Certification are to Increase participants’ understanding of how worker rights are human rights and create an awareness of the importance of human rights and the constant challenges to them.

Program of Study (POS)
This new skills-oriented program has 2 components:

The Academic Component focuses on increasing comprehension of equity-seeking groups, exploring the legal foundation for claims, uncovering ways to get politically involved and the workplace application of human rights. You will be provided with a list of courses you can take in the program’s Course Work section when you enrol.

The Research Component builds on webCampus courses and asks participants to demonstrate their knowledge. The end product will be a Final Report which identifies the skills you have learned and presents your research in the Human Rights field with a union focus. You will find a Sample of the Research in the program’s Research Component section when you enroll in it.

Some colleges and universities across Canada have a PLAR (prior learning assessment and recognition) program that people may apply for to find out whether a particular college or university will offer equivalencies for these courses.

Labour Activist Certification
Program Description
A Labour Activist is a person who believes worker rights are human rights, and respect needs to be shown to all workers. The Labour Activist Certification provides students with the tools needed to better understand the rights and benefits of being a unionized worker. The Objectives of this Certification are to Increase participants’ knowledge of worker rights in the workplace and expand the relevance of labour rights among human rights.

This new skills-oriented program has 2 components:

The Academic Component offers courses that provide participants with a wide range of knowledge that an effective activist can utilize in the workplace. You will be provided with a list of courses you can take in the program’s Course Work section when you enrol.

The Research Component builds on webCampus courses and asks participants to demonstrate their knowledge. The end product will be a Final Research Project that identifies the skills you have learned and presents your research in the Labour Rights field. You will find a Sample of the Research in the program’s Research Component section when you enroll in it.

Media and Communications Specialist
Program Description
This program trains participants in multimedia and communication skills. With these skills, participants may open doors to various roles in marketing and communication within the union, business and non-profit sectors. Participants may also use these courses as a springboard for further education as freelance communication professionals. The Objectives of this Certification are to confirm participants’ familiarity with common communications’ software and increase the comfort level of participants’ creative and professional approaches to communications.

The Academic Component includes courses in computer training, media literacy, Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint along with other offerings that will help to enhance your media and communication skills. The end product will be a Final Report which identifies the skills you have learned and presents your research in the Media and Communications field. Occupational Health and Safety Specialist
Program Description
This program provides students with the knowledge and power to ensure their Health and Safety Rights are protected. Educated workers who know these rights would positively influence not only their own, but also their coworkers’ lives for the better. The Objectives of this Certification are to increase participants’ understanding of the positive outcomes effective Health & Safety systems can have on workers and provide practical approaches to applying Health & Safety principles in a workplace.

Retail Food Sector Specialist
Program Description
This program provides exposure to and involvement with the practical aspects of the Retail Food Sector. In addition, students are asked to focus on specific areas within Retail that will provide a more comprehensive understanding of department-specific topics. The Objectives of this Certification are to Increase participants’ understanding of the retail food sector and how this multi-million-dollar a-year operation functions and to create a keen awareness of workers’ significance to front-line operations.

Courses included in this component will help elevate participants’ awareness when dealing with public relations, production or safety in the Retail Food Sector. Digital Skills Specialist
Program Description
This program is designed to highlight participants’ familiarity with the most popular software and abilities to work effectively with them. In addition, students will gain insights to enhance their proficiency and expertise in IT software solutions. The Objectives of this Certification are to Increase participants’ understanding and confidence of the most common computer software and provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their problem-solving abilities using computer software.

These courses are designed to introduce participants to a broad spectrum of IT skills, ranging from beginner to advanced levels.You will be provided with a list of courses you can take in the program’s Course Work section when you enrol.

The end product will be a Final Report which identifies the skills you have acquired and presents your research in the field of Digital Skills.
