NAOSH Week promotes workplace safety awareness
Toronto – May 2, 2016 – UFCW Canada proudly supports the North American Occupational Safety and Health Week (NAOSH) Week, held from May 1 to May 7, to heighten awareness of ways to enhance safety in every workplace.
NAOSH Week is rooted in a community-based approach across the continent – spanning Canada, the USA, and Mexico – sending a message to industry, government, and workers about the importance of raising awareness to reduce work-related injuries, disease and fatalities.
The goals of NAOSH week are to:
- increase understanding of the benefits of investment in occupational health and safety;
- raise awareness of the role and contribution of safety and health professionals;
- reduce workplace injuries and illness by encouraging new health and safety activities and interest in NAOSH Week;
- and to focus the attention of employers, employees, the general public and all partners in occupational safety and health on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community.
During NAOSH week we encourage employers from across Canada to promote and celebrate efforts that raise awareness of safety at work, home, and play.
