My webCampus Experience: Matthew Isherwood, UFCW 333

Windsor, Ont. – October 11, 2016 – UFCW Canada members and allies across the country are raving about the union's groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, which offers free online courses to all UFCW Canada members, their family members, and community partners.

Many UFCW Canada members and allies take webCampus courses out of personal interest, while others see them as a way to develop their knowledge and professional skills.

Matthew Isherwood is a UFCW Canada Local 333 member and union steward who works at G4S Canada in Windsor, Ontario. Since registering for webCampus last year, Matthew has taken numerous courses through the program. He had the following to say about his experience completing the webCampus Labour Activist Certificate this past summer:

"While taking the Labour Activist Certificate, I learned about the various struggles in the labour movement and how workers came together in the direst situations to demand a better life for themselves, their families, and their fellow citizens. I also learned that we as union members can make a difference – now and in the future – by getting involved with our union.

I’m proud to be a UFCW member and completing the Labour Activist Certificate has only strengthened my enthusiasm for my union. When thinking about what a union is to me, it's family. We help each other out to make things better, and we are always there for our brothers and sisters. That's what the UFCW is to me. I encourage all members to take the Labour Activist Certificate, as it was a very rewarding experience for me."

The Labour Activist Certificate is one of several webCampus certificate programs that UFCW Canada offers to members, their family members, and our community allies free of charge. To find out more about the webCampus certificate programs, or to register online, click here.
