Creating a UFCW Canada Local Union Pride Committee - Resource Guide

Toronto – February 16, 2017 – UFCW Canada and UFCW Local Unions led the way at dozens of Pride Parades across the country in 2016. In advance of the 2017 Pride Season, UFCW Canada has produced a new resource guide – Creating a UFCW Canada Local Union Pride Committee.

The guide is packed with practical information to advance, or initiate a Local Union pride committee or Pride Chapter. The compilation of resources is drawn from the collaborative work and experience of a number of organizations including UFCW Canada Local Unions; the UFCW International UFCW LGBTQI2S constituency group, OUTreach; UFCW Canada national partner EGALE Canada Human Rights Trust; the Canadian Professional Association for Transgender Health; the Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity; and community organizations, like the Toronto’s 519 Centre, working to advance LGBTQI2S inclusion.

“We’re proud of this latest initiative in our ongoing commitment to LGBTQI2S members and the community,” says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “The new guide is a great resource to support Pride Committees and their important work to disarm hate, and in the fight for the equality and inclusion that everyone deserves.”
