UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Sera Grover, Local 401Red Deer, Alta. – August 15, 2018 – UFCW Canada Local 401’s Sera Grover is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2017.

Sera is the daughter of UFCW 401 member April Leader, from the Port O’Call Safeway in Red Deer, Alberta.

A student at the University of Saskatchewan, Sera is in her second year of the Agriculture and Bioresources program.

“The Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship has a huge impact on my academic career, as I plan to take a Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine (DVM) after I have finished my degree in Animal Bioscience at the University of Saskatchewan,” says Sera. “The generous help of this scholarship will let me feel more financially secure for the upcoming semester.”

The UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship offers a total of $18,000 to UFCW Canada members and their families, and is one of more than 25 union scholarships available to members and their families every year, totaling $300,000-plus.

“Once awarded with my DVM (six years from now) I hope to work in the animal production side of the field, working with producers to create a more sustainable barn to table process,” adds Sera. “I thank UCFW Canada for presenting me with this generous scholarship. It is truly beneficial to my future.”

The deadline to apply for the BDM scholarship for 2018 is September 30th.
