More LensCrafters employees join UFCW 1000A

Newmarket, Ont. – March 4, 2013 – Retail workers in Newmarket, Ontario have become the newest group of LensCrafters employees to vote “Yes!” to UFCW Canada Local 1000A. The recent victory led by the Newmarket workers comes on the momentum of other successful drives at LensCrafters locations in Markham, Burlington and Toronto, making the Newmarket location the fifth store to gain UFCW Canada representation and the full support of Canada’s leading voice for retail workers.

"On behalf of Local 1000A, I am proud to congratulate the workers at the LensCrafters location in Newmarket for coming together and taking the initiative to make their store a better place to work," says Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer.

"Their victory is a testament to their courage, determination and the power of collective action," adds Sister Sawyer.

“The workers wanted to be treated with fairness, respect and dignity in their workplace and they felt joining a union was the best way to achieve their goals,” says Local 1000A organizing coordinator Jonathan Lobo.
