2025 YIP Season Launches in the Atlantic

Halifax – May 23, 2025 – The 2025 season of the UFCW Canada Young Workers Internship Program (YIP) officially kicked off in Halifax, Nova Scotia, bringing together young activists from across the Atlantic region for a week of transformative learning and empowerment.
As Canada’s leading program for young labour activists, YIP continues to provide a powerful platform for UFCW Canada members to build their skills, deepen their union knowledge, and take meaningful action in their workplaces and communities.
Participants engaged in a full week of interactive workshops and training sessions focused on leadership, advocacy, and organizing. From political action to media literacy and collective bargaining, the curriculum offered a comprehensive look at how young workers can lead change on the job and beyond.
“My experience participating in the YIP program exceeded my expectations,” says Denton MacLean, a UFCW Local 864 member from Cavendish Farms. “This program provided plenty of great content that gave all of us an opportunity to grow not just professionally but personally as well. The presenters created a great learning environment where everyone was free to ask questions.”
Each year, YIP connects with over 100 young member-activists from coast to coast. The next stop for the 2025 program will be Saskatoon this June.
