Affordability For All: Take Action today

Toronto – June 25, 2025 – A recent survey from the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) reveals a troubling reality: nearly 60 per cent of working Canadians don’t believe they’ll ever be able to retire. This finding underscores the growing anxiety and instability that define life for millions across the country, as rising costs outpace wages and economic uncertainty erodes financial security.
The crisis goes beyond pocketbooks—it’s affecting mental health. Forty-four per cent of Canadians say their mental well-being has declined due to global instability, but for many, the true source of stress is closer to home: the unaffordability of everyday life. From unaffordable housing and grocery bills to underfunded healthcare and precarious employment, Canadians are facing impossible choices—between rent and medicine, childcare and savings, survival and dignity.
This is why the Affordability for All campaign is urgently calling for bold action. The affordability crisis is not just about inflation—it's a social justice issue. Women, Indigenous peoples, newcomers, and other marginalized communities bear the heaviest burden, facing higher rates of poverty, housing insecurity, and job precarity.
We must demand real solutions: investments in affordable housing, universal healthcare and childcare, secure jobs with fair wages, and trade policies that centre people—not profit. Parliament must act now to build a future where no one is left behind.
Affordability should not be a privilege—it should be a guarantee.
