Food retail workers at Adonis Market Griffintown join union – UFCW 500
Montreal – July 22, 2025 – UFCW Local 500 is proud to announce the official unionization of the 104 employees of the Adonis market in Griffintown, Montreal. The application for certification, filed with the Tribunal administratif du travail on June 1, 2025, was accepted on June 20.
The workers' desire to unionize was born out of a deep-seated need for respect from their employer, and the desire to obtain conditions comparable to those offered in other unionized grocery stores with UFCW 500 members in Quebec, notably in Super C and Metro stores, the latter, which also owns the Adonis banner.
"The workers at Adonis Griffintown have shown that it is possible to organize to demand better conditions and the respect they deserve. Their unionization sends a clear message: regardless of the banner, employees' rights must be recognized and protected," said Antonio Filato, President of UFCW 500.
UFCW 500 salutes the courage and determination of these new members, who have united their voices to assert their rights and aspire to greater equity in their workplace. Together, they are taking a new, hopeful step towards a better future.
This new unit brings together unionized workers in a variety of positions: clerks, cashiers, assistant managers, receptionists, office staff, butchers and fishmongers. This is an important step for these food industry workers, who have chosen to adopt a collective voice to improve their working conditions.
With some 37,000 members in over 675 companies, UFCW 500 is the largest food and retail union in Quebec.
