Retirement home workers join union – UFCW 175
Waterloo, Ont. – September 25, 2025 – UFCW 175 welcomes the 25 new members who work full-time at Waterloo Heights Senior Apartments who recently voted to join the union.
Key concerns of the new members are addressing stagnant wages, favoritism, lack of respect, and ensuring that their voices are being heard.
“The employees at Waterloo Heights held strong and stuck together and made the great decision to join UFCW Local 175,” said UFCW Local 175 President Kelly Tosato. “Their courage and determination led them down a road that will help them build a better life going forward and it’s a great example of what can be achieved when workers stand together as one voice.”
Waterloo Heights is an assisted living home for seniors where the newest members of UFCW Local 175 work as housekeepers, dietary aides, cooks, on-call attendants, and maintenance.
