IGA supermarkets in Rimouski join UFCW 500
Rimouski (Quebec) – October 6, 2025 — The two IGA supermarkets in the city of Rimouski, Alimentation Coop Rimouski on Jessop Boulevard and IGA Extra Rimouski on Sirois Avenue, changed union allegiance to join UFCW 500 on September 11. These two stores were previously unionized with the CSN under the same certification. This change was made official by a majority vote held by secret ballot on September 10 and 11.
"The employees of these two supermarkets contacted us because they were familiar with our approach, our services, and our reputation for member service and collective agreement negotiations in Quebec. We have more than 600 grocery stores unionized with UFCW 500 in Quebec. We visit our establishments regularly to meet with our members and make their voices heard at work. Our health and safety, labor law, and bargaining services, as well as our advantageous collective agreements, make us the food union in Quebec," says Tony Filato, president of UFCW 500.
“We got to work as soon as the vote was over. We have already begun the negotiation process to improve working conditions. UFCW 500 is known for being present in its establishments, and workers appreciate that,” says François Bissonnette, UFCW 500 representative.
