UFCW Canada joins international movement standing with Starbucks workers on Human Rights Day

Toronto – December 10, 2025 – More than 2,500 Starbucks baristas in the United States are on strike for better pay, fair schedules, respect on the job, and an end to union-busting.
For Human Rights Day 2025, UFCW Canada joins with international trade unionists, as affiliates of the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations (IUF) stand in support of the striking Starbucks workers.
For the last four years, U.S. Starbucks workers have powered an impressive union organizing campaign taking on one of the most famous global brands. Yet, the coffee giant continues to fight workers at every turn, firing worker leaders, closing stores and waging an anti-union campaign. Meanwhile, CEO Brian Niccol was paid $96 million for 120 days of work in 2024—the embodiment of corporate greed.
On Nov. 13, Starbucks baristas in 40+ US cities launched an open-ended, national strike. After nearly four years of organizing, Starbucks has refused to resolve hundreds of unfair labor practices and come to the table with new proposals for a fair contract. Workers are striking for better pay, fair schedules, respect on the job, and an end to union-busting.
This Human Rights Day, December 10, unions and allies across industries around the world are showing up alongside striking union baristas and show the company our collective power.
UFCW Canada is proud to back US Starbucks baristas in their fight for a fair collective agreement that includes higher pay, better staffing, and protections at work.
