UFCW 832 members at Maple Leaf Consumer Foods vote YES to new contract

Lagimodière, Man. – January 27, 2026 – UFCW Local 832 members working at Maple Leaf Consumer Foods on Lagimodière, Manitoba have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new five-year collective bargaining agreement, with 97 per cent voting in favour.

The strong mandate followed a near-unanimous strike vote, which played a key role in securing meaningful gains at the bargaining table.

“Thanks to the members, who voted 98 per cent in favour of striking, the bargaining committee was able to push back against all proposed concessions and negotiate a deal that truly reflects what the members deserve,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832 and lead negotiator.

The union bargaining committee, made up of workers from the plant and supported by UFCW staff, secured a number of significant improvements in the new agreement. Highlights include double-time overtime, increased premium pay, a pathway to paid sick days, and wage increases averaging 19.23 per cent over the life of the contract.

UFCW Local 832 represents more than 1,800 workers at Maple Leaf Consumer Foods who produce and package pork products, including bacon, for national brands and customers around the world.
