Honouring Black History Month

Toronto – January 28, 2026 – Black History Month is a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions, resilience, and leadership of Black communities in Canada, while also reflecting on the ongoing struggle against racism and inequality.
Black workers have long played a vital role in building Canada’s economy. Yet many Black workers continue to face systemic barriers in the workplace, including discrimination, wage gaps, precarious employment, and limited access to advancement opportunities. These inequities are rooted in a history of anti-Black racism that still shapes working conditions today.
Racial justice is inseparable from workers’ rights—fair wages, safe workplaces, and equal opportunities must apply to everyone , without exception.
Black Voices Matter
Education plays a critical role in building awareness and driving meaningful change. To help foster understanding and action, UFCW Canada is offering the webCampus course Black Voices Matter. This course is a powerful resource designed to help workers recognize, understand, and actively combat anti-Black racism in Canadian society and in the workplace.
Through key topics such as identifying systemic racism, understanding how anti-Black racism manifests at work, and learning about the legal framework that protects workers’ rights, participants gain valuable insight into the challenges faced by Black workers. The course also highlights practical strategies for creating inclusive and supportive workplaces, emphasizing the importance of allyship, advocacy, and solidarity.
By equipping participants with knowledge and tools to take action, Black Voices Matter empowers workers to help build environments where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
