UFCW Canada celebrates Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse)
Toronto – February 16, 2026 – As Lunar New Year begins, UFCW Canada joins members and communities across the country in celebrating a time of renewal, reflection, and hope. This year marks the Year of the Horse, a symbol of strength, resilience, and forward momentum, values that closely reflect the spirit of working people and the labour movement.
Lunar New Year is observed by millions of people worldwide and is celebrated in many cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and other East and Southeast Asian communities. The holiday marks the start of a new year based on the lunar calendar and is traditionally a time for family gatherings, honouring ancestors, and welcoming good fortune, health, and prosperity.
Across Canada, Lunar New Year celebrations bring communities together through shared meals, cultural performances, and festivals that highlight the richness and diversity of our country. These traditions reinforce the importance of connection, respect, and collective strength.
As we welcome the Year of the Horse, UFCW Canada extends warm wishes to all members, allies, and their families. May the year ahead bring health, prosperity, and renewed energy as we continue working together to advance fairness and justice for workers across Canada.
Happy Lunar New Year from UFCW Canada!
