Members at BMR Mont-Joli ratify a new collective agreement
Quebec City, Que. – March 4, 2026 – UFCW Local 501 members working at BMR Mont-Joli have ratified a new collective agreement that delivers wage increases, improved benefits, and important language updates.
BMR Mont-Joli is a locally owned hardware and building supply store serving contractors and DIY customers in the Mont-Joli community.
The new agreement provides wage increases ranging from 4.5% to 11% in the first year, depending on job classification. In the second and third years, members will benefit from a cost-of-living adjustment clause tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), with annual increases set at a minimum of 2.25% and a maximum of 3%.
Improvements were also made to time off and scheduling. The number of floating holidays has increased to four, and two additional statutory holidays have been added: the employee’s birthday and Journée nationale des patriotes. The vacation structure has been enhanced to allow members to access three weeks of vacation after one year of service, four weeks after five years, five weeks after fifteen years, and a sixth week after twenty-five years of seniority.
The agreement also includes significant increases to training and replacement premiums. These premiums have doubled from $1 to $2 per hour, recognizing the additional responsibilities members take on in these roles.
“This agreement reflects the serious and steady work of the bargaining committee, and the members’ commitment to strengthening their working conditions within a structured and sustainable framework,” said Daniel Nadeau, Director for the East of Quebec at UFCW Local 501. “This ratification demonstrates the power of collective bargaining and the strength of union action in securing fair and transparent conditions that reflect members’ realities.”
The bargaining unit, certified in November 2021, includes material handlers, delivery drivers, warehouse clerks, customer service clerks, and cashiers.
