Strength, Resilience and Unity: UFCW Canada releases its 2025 Annual Report

Toronto – April 1, 2026 – United Food and Commercial Workers Canada is pleased to release its 2025 Annual Report.
The report details a year of union growth during times of economic uncertainty, as UFCW Canada welcomed over 5,000 new members, achieved landmark organizing wins in sectors like riding sharing and retail, and continued to fight for the issues that matter most to union members.
UFCW Canada is the country’s leading and most progressive private sector union, with more than 250,000 members coast-to-coast, in the food retail and processing, agriculture, health care, security, and hospitality industries.
In 2025, UFCW Canada welcome 5,245 new members across 40 new bargaining units in the last year, including making historic inroads in organizing new sectors, such as certifying Uber drivers in Victoria, organizing workers at Canadian Tire, and brought union representation to the fashion industry by organizing H&M workers.
UFCW Canada local unions made a tangible difference in the lives of over 30,000 members by ratifying collective agreements at over 250 bargaining units last year. This included first contract ratifications at newly organized bargaining units such as GFL in Stellarton, Highline Mushrooms in Abbotsford and Ailments Morehouse in Laval.
The report highlights how, despite the economic uncertainty of the past year, workers across Canada refused to be ruled by fear and stood up to threats and intimidation through political action and organizing. In 2025, the labour movement stood together as a united front to protect Canadian workers and good union jobs.
UFCW Canada continues to put our members first, and to fight for the issues that resonate with them. Expanding access to permanent residency, strengthening health and safety laws across the country and stopping hate and xenophobia advances our mission of being the most diverse and inclusive union in Canada.
