Workers at Rosso Coffee Roasters join the union – UFCW 401
Calgary – April 29, 2026 – Workers at Rosso Coffee in Calgary have said “Yes!” to joining UFCW Local 401, joining the UFCW family and strengthening their collective voice at work. The newly unionized members are employed at five Rosso café locations throughout Calgary, as well as in roasting, packaging, delivery, training, assistant management, and warehouse roles.
The new bargaining unit includes baristas, roasters, packagers, delivery drivers, trainers, assistant managers, and warehouse workers at the well-known Calgary-based company recognized for its quality products and community presence.
“Workers in coffee shops are showing real courage right now,” said UFCW Local 401 President Thomas Hesse. “For years, this sector has been seen as difficult to organize, but Rosso workers are proving that when people come together, they can raise standards and have a real voice at work. This is an important first for Alberta, and it won’t be the last.”
The workers behind the brand are building a stronger workplace by organizing to advocate for better standards on the job. UFCW representation will allow them to negotiate collectively and pursue improvements that reflect the realities of their day-to-day work.
