Members at Canna Cabana win higher wages with first contract – UFCW 175

Ottawa – June 25, 2026 – UFCW Local 175 members who work at two Canna Cabana locations in Ottawa have ratified their first collective agreement.

The budtenders work at Canna Cabana locations in Ottawa's ByWard Market and on Rideau Street.

Members will see significant wage improvements through a new wage grid, with first-year increases ranging from 2.5% to 3.5% for both full-time and part-time employees, depending on length of service. Additional wage increases of 2% in year two and 2% in year three apply to all classifications and progression rates. Members will also receive a lump-sum payment of $400 for full-time employees and $200 for part-time employees, effective upon ratification.

Through collective bargaining, the Union Negotiating Committee successfully maintained all existing benefits, which continue to be fully employer paid. The agreement also introduces paid bereavement leave and paid sick days.

Remembrance Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation have been added as paid statutory holidays. Members will also receive an additional floater day upon ratification and a second floater day effective January 2029. In addition, the employer will contribute $0.03 per hour worked to the UFCW Local 175 Training and Education Fund, supporting training and development opportunities for members.

The two stores covered by the agreement will continue to operate as separate bargaining units. However, by negotiating a single collective agreement covering both locations, the Union Negotiating Committee secured language that gives members at each store priority access to call-in opportunities and job postings before positions are offered outside the bargaining units.
