UFCW Canada brings workers' rights to communities across the country
Toronto – July 23, 2026 - This summer, UFCW Canada is taking the conversation about workers' rights beyond the workplace and into the heart of communities across the country.
Through a series of interactive festival activations, UFCW Canada activists are connecting with workers where they live, gather, and celebrate. The initiative will see union activists participate in five major street and community festivals throughout the summer, providing an engaging opportunity to talk with workers about their rights on the job and the benefits of union representation.
The latest activation took place at Toronto's popular Big on Bloor Festival, where UFCW Canada activists welcomed hundreds of festival-goers to their booth. Visitors had the chance to learn about workplace rights, ask questions about organizing a union, and discover how joining together with coworkers can lead to stronger wages, safer workplaces, better benefits, and greater job security.
"Our goal is to meet workers where they are," says Pablo Godoy, Special Assistant to the National President. "Community festivals bring together people from all walks of life, making them the perfect place to talk about workplace rights and show that everyone deserves fairness, respect, and a voice on the job."
To make these conversations fun and accessible, each activation features interactive games, prize wheels, giveaways, and draws that encourage people to stop by, participate, and connect with UFCW activists.
UFCW Canada activists will next be heading to Taste of Manila, Canada's largest Filipino street festival, taking place on August 15 and 16 in Toronto’s Little Manila. Festival-goers are encouraged to stop by the UFCW Canada booth to spin the prize wheel, enter prize draws, and learn more about their rights at work and how joining a union can help build safer workplaces, better wages, and stronger communities.
