UFCW, Unite the Union team up for bold action against Highway 407 corp. No more public money for Blacklisters! Tell Hwy. 407 corp. to stop attacking labour rights!

Toronto – July 10, 2013 – UFCW, Unite the Union and other progressive allies made an important stand for international labour rights today by leading a mass demonstration and information picket against Ferrovial: the majority shareholder of Highway 407 ETR – Canada’s most lucrative toll road company – for blacklisting an employee who raised health and safety concerns.

The demonstration at the 407 ETR is the latest effort by the international campaign that started informing Canadians – and their governments – about Ferrovial’s lack of social responsibility earlier this week.

“As Canada’s leading and most progressive union, UFCW is very proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our Brothers and Sisters from the United Kingdom in protecting fundamental health and safety rights,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley. “Labour rights are human rights, and an attack against one worker’s rights is an attack against us all.”
