Winnipeg and Edmonton – June 13, 2014 – UFCW activists proudly shared their solidarity with their LGBT brothers and sisters at recent Pride celebrations in Winnipeg and Edmonton. At the 27th Pride Winnipeg Parade, UFCW Canada Local 1869 and Local 832 activists joined more than 1,000 marchers on June 1 for the largest Pride parade ever held in the city.

In Edmonton, UFCW Canada Local 401 activists were loud and proud at the Edmonton Pride Parade on June 7. It was the fifth year in a row Local 401 has participated in the Edmonton Pride Parade which has "grown by leaps and bounds and we're proud to be part of that success," said UFCW Canada Local 401 President Douglas O'Halloran. "When we march in Pride parades, we are telling our membership and the community at large that UFCW Local 401 is on your side, no matter where you are from or who you love."

UFCW Canada activists from across the Prairies and the rest of Canada will also be participating in the largest Pride event ever to be held in Canada – with 2 million people expected to be in attendance – for the World Pride celebration in Toronto, June 20 to 29. As the nation’s leading and most progressive union, UFCW Canada is playing an important role in mobilizing members, activists, and families to participate in WorldPride 2014 events, including the Toronto's Pride Parade, Dyke March, and Trans March on the weekend of June 27 to 29. UFCW activists, members, family members and allies are also invited to attend a Special UFCW Canada Event on June 28, at Toronto's Sheraton Centre Hotel. Find out more at ufcw.ca/pride
