Toronto – August 18, 2020 – Fast food workers at the Jollibee restaurant in North York, Toronto are the newest members of UFCW Locals 175 & 633 after recently voting to join the union.
The 65 employees at Jollibee first joined the union in March 2020, but the company challenged the victory at the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB). The Board recently issued its decision on the matter, giving the workers the win they deserve.
Several concerns brought these workers to UFCW Locals 175 & 633 for representation. The members have already had their first proposal meeting and are excited to begin bargaining for their first contract. The employees want to work toward better wages and achieve health and welfare benefits. In addition, they are looking to establish language for proper scheduling by seniority, and to clarify worker classifications and hours. Overall, they want a workplace with fair treatment and job security.
These new members are employed as cooks, servers, cashiers, and cleaners at the restaurant.
UFCW Canada Locals 175 & 633 represent more than 70,000 hard-working Ontarians in almost every sector of the economy. To learn more about the outstanding work of UFCW 175 & 633, visit their website.
