Social Justice

Canada was built on the strength of diverse peoples and the vision of many from around the world who came here to build their future.  It is still true today despite artificial obstacles that would be unjust to anybody.

To stop someone from getting ahead because of their colour, gender orientation, language, age, or where they come from, or their status is not just unjust — it ignores basic human rights.

As Canada’s largest, progressive, private-sector union, UFCW Canada is committed to breaking down those obstacles and opening the doors to equal treatment at work and in the community for all those in Canada.

UFCW Canada is committed to Social Justice and we have been for generations.

Social justice means fighting for the rights of people who are exploited though fear. It means joining with allies to build the voice of diverse communities in shaping an equitable Canada. It means working together to create opportunities through education, awareness and community building, political action, and culture sharing.

At UFCW Canada we are committed to ensuring that all working people and their families – immigrant, migrant or Canadian born – can pursue the benefits of the Canadian experience including status, equal access to education, training and jobs, and voice in their workplace to uphold their labour rights.

Social Justice means a better Canada for all and with you we are helping to build that. To find out how we can help and how to get involved, please contact the UFCW Canada Human Rights, Equity and Diversity office at 416-675-1104 or by email at hred@ufcw.ca.
