Congratulations OTG staff, by signing membership cards and showing support for Unionizing your workplace, you've managed to get management's attention. Now it is your time to finally make them listen to your concerns. Management had no interest in what you had to say prior to the union. Please find below responses to the company's anti union conduct. And ask yourself this question: if the company is claiming the union can't guarantee you anything, why are they working so hard to dissuade you from voting yes. They are afraid that you will gain a Collective voice on Thursday, and they will be forced to deal with you in a respectful manner. "OTG Management has an "Open Door Policy" and wants to maintain a direct relationship with you."Of course the Company wants to maintain status quo. They would rather have a job fair every week and hire countless employees than deal with you in a respectful manner. By forming a Union, NO ONE will be terminated without cause. That will ensure a stable and more productive work force. A happy workforce is a stronger workforce!
"You have to pay hundreds of dollars per year in union dues"It does not cost money to join a Union, it PAYS! Government statistics show that unionized workers earn an average of 30% more than non unionized staff. Not only that, Union dues are 100% tax deductible at the end of the year. When your employer claims that they know what's best for you, something is definitely wrong. What is best for you is the Union advantage! Higher wages, a comprehensive benefits plan, job security, and free parking!
"The Union can't guarantee you anything other than paying Union Dues"EVERYTHING is negotiable! That's the beauty of Unionizing. All negotiations start with proposals from the workers. Some may want a raise every 6 months, others may want sick days and the ability to advance within the company. We can guarantee that you will all have an opportunity to participate in the process, and that nobody will pay a single cent of Union dues until after they see the value of the Union and vote to accept a Contract with the Company.
"The Union is a Company that uses your Union dues to pay it's organizers"UFCW is a non-profit organization--much like a charity. There are no profits, there are no investors. There are only committed people working hard to provide for you and your families the benefits that you deserve! Union dues are spent on various things such as providing dozens of college-credited education courses FREE of charge, scholarships for our young members, providing assistance to migrant workers, and protecting workers rights everywhere!
"OTG offers flexibility in shift scheduling, and the Union would stop that"Lets be clear, the management is afraid that you are forming a Union. It means they no longer have the power to tell you what shifts you are working. YOU will be able to pick your own shifts based on a set of rules that YOU approve!
"UFCW is the Union"YOU are the Union. The vast majority of your coworkers have signed Union Membership cards.and are voting yes on Thursday to gain the right to negotiate with Management. By joining over 1.3 million members of UFCW, you too will have job security, a fair schedule, better wages, and much more!
"If you are voting yes you don't have to show up"Everyone has to show up and Vote "YES" on Thursday. The more "YES" votes we get on Thursday, the better the contract will be. We have all come this far, and it is too late to back down now.
"What will happen if people vote no"The employer is not going to want to have Union votes every year. Since Union membership is 100% confidential, management never knows who did and didn't sign a card. With a history of job fairs every week, we can all see how management will react with its employees. You all have to show up on Thursday and vote "Yes" to protect your jobs at OTG.
You have all worked very hard over the last few months. I am very proud to say that we are continuously signing membership cards. We continue to grow in strength and we look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday and are confident that the vast majority of workers will vote "yes!" |
