UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarships deadline approaching
Toronto – October 24, 2015 – As Canada's leading and most progressive union, UFCW Canada recognizes that migration and the hope of providing a better future for our children go hand in hand, and we understand the importance of education. Our union also believes that education has no borders. Accordingly, we offer 20 scholarships – worth $500 each – to the family members of migrant workers to help them reach their educational goals.
The application deadline for the 2015 UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarships is December 31, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. Those accepted to receive the scholarships will be notified via registered mail or e-mail by May 31, 2016.
Workers who labour in Canada under the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) – such as live-in caregivers, seasonal agriculture workers, and temporary foreign workers in other industries – are eligible to apply for the UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarships. An applicant can nominate his or her children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews for the scholarships.
The nominee child may live in any country, can be of any nationality, must be between 4 to 25 years of age, and must be attending or hoping to attend an educational institution. The application form must be fully completed to be considered and will not be returned to applicants. The decision of UFCW Canada in awarding the scholarships is final and not subject to review or scrutiny.
