On November 18, newly re-elected Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger welcomed over 800 guests from labour, government and business to the 13th Annual Manitoba Premier's Dinner held in Winnipeg. It was a great night for everyone to celebrate the Manitoba NDP's fourth straight term in office, after voters returned an NDP government with a resounding majority of seats in the Legislative Assembly following the October 4 provincial election.
Many UFCW Canada Local Union activists contributed their strength and efforts to the campaign to re-elect an NDP government that in its past three terms has delivered some of the most progressive, worker-friendly legislation in the country.
"The Manitoba NDP has always respected workers' rights, the issues facing working families, and the important contribution that UFCW Canada members make to the Manitoba community," says UFCW Canada Local 832 President Jeff Traeger who attended the Premier's Dinner, along with UFCW Canada Local 1869 President Aline Audette and members and staff from both Local Unions as well.
"The October 4th victory wasn't just for the NDP," added President Audette. "October 4 was a victory for all Manitobans who look to their government to respond to the concerns of everyday people — not just the corporate sector."
