Just weeks after New Democrats from across Canada assembled in Toronto to elect Tom Mulcair as Leader of the federal NDP, Ontario NDP members gathered at the party's biennial convention in Hamilton this past weekend.
UFCW Canada represented one of the largest labour delegations with over 60 delegates.
The convention delegates discussed the potential impact of the austerity measures contained in the Ontario government’s recently announced budget, and passed a number of resolutions dedicated to building a better, fairer Ontario for the province’s working families.
Over 1,000 delegates also heard from a number of speakers including Mulcair, BCNDP Leader Adrian Dix, and Newfoundland & Labrador NDP Leader Lorraine Michael.
Sounding very much like Canada’s next Prime Minister, Mulcair closed the convention with a rousing speech that inspired delegates to renew their commitment to the party and to build on Jack Layton’s tremendous success in Ontario and throughout the country.
