On September 4th, webCampus – North America’s most advanced labour education program – re-opens its doors to all UFCW Canada members and their families, as well as our social justice partners throughout the country. We are offering a wide array of new courses in both English and French. All webCampus courses are free of charge, can be taken at your own pace, and are accessible anywhere that you have a computer and internet connection.
Below is a list of courses that are available this fall.
New courses starting in September 2012:
This introductory course is designed to present a basic understanding of the workings of our economy. In Economics 101, we introduce workers to the many factors that affect money and how we live, and the ways in which our livelihoods are largely determined by others. By taking this course, workers will learn more about the role that they play in shaping our current economy.
Our Environment: Welcome to the Issues
Participants examine five distinct yet interrelated factors that affect our environment: air, water, habitat and wildlife, climate change, and pollution and waste. Participants will look at ways of assessing their effect on the planet by measuring their ecological footprint and identifying ways to lessen their environmental impact on the earth.
Sharing our Lives – Caring for Elderly Parents
Those who are still parenting their kids, yet find themselves protecting and providing for their parents, are considered the 'sandwich generation.' This generation is facing many of the challenges that previous generations have faced, with a few interesting twists.
This course will provide participants with an overview of the situations that parents in the "sandwich generation" often find themselves in. This course will examine:
- What is the sandwich generation?
- What does it mean to give care?
- Focus on the caregiver
- Facing the challenges of stress
- Then there's family
The goal of this course is to educate and inform participants about wills and the importance of having one.
