Montreal – August 2, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 501 members working at the Sobeys Quebec regional office in Montreal, Quebec recently ratified a new six-year collective agreement. The 140 office workers overwhelmingly voted in favour of their new contract, which creates 16 positions with the oil sector and establishes an in-house mechanism for the posting of 32 other positions.
The agreement increases wages by 3 percent in the first year and 2 percent in each of the following five years, while maintaining existing health and welfare benefits. The Sobeys members will also receive a training allowance, a lead hand premium, an increase in shift bonuses, and additional RRSP contributions from their employer.
"We are convinced that this contract provides excellent continuity of benefits and entitlements while ensuring that the Sobeys office employees have financial stability for the next six years," says UFCW Local 501 President Alain Lachaîne. "Congratulations to the Sobeys members on achieving an outstanding collective agreement," Brother Lachaîne adds.
