Mississauga, Ont. – September 20, 2014 – Workers at the Quinte Humane Society in Belleville, Ontario voted unanimously in favour of joining UFCW Canada Local 175, at a certification vote held earlier this month. Some of the reasons the new members wanted to join the Union were to improve wages, end the practice of favouritism, have job security, and fair allocation of job rotation and hours.
“These caring workers often felt like they were treated as just a number instead of a vital part of the clinic and organization,” explained UFCW Canada Local 175 President Shawn Haggerty. “They faced changing rules on a daily basis. Now, as UFCW Canada 175 members, they will be able to achieve some consistency and fairness in their work lives.”
