My webCampus Experience: Ashley Campbell
New Westminster, B.C. – February 23, 2015 – UFCW Canada members across the country are raving about the union's groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, which offers free online courses to all UFCW Canada members, their family members, and community partners.
Many UFCW Canada members and allies take webCampus courses out of personal interest, while others see them as a way to develop their knowledge and professional skills.
Ashley Campbell is a Business Representative with UFCW Canada Local 1518 in New Westminster, British Columbia. She first discovered webCampus after asking her Local Union about how she could expand her knowledge and broaden her skills on the job.
Since registering for webCampus last year, Ashley has completed nine courses through the program. She had the following to say about her experience with webCampus:
"I went online and looked at the webCampus courses and was very interested since I knew I could take them on my own time.
I really liked the basic and advanced Stewarding courses, because the skills I attained were things I have to use in my job on a daily basis. It was interesting to learn about conflict resolution and grievance investigations, and how to apply this in the workplace. I also enjoyed the Labour Studies and Health and Safety courses.
I’ve mostly stuck to the Union Culture, Solidarity, and Steward courses because I am a firm believer that one of the ways we can strengthen our union is through empowering our stewards – and these courses can help them build the confidence to be leaders. I got a lot of information out of these courses, and I feel that I have been able to apply the skills I learned back in my workplace."
Registration for webCampus is now open. To register for webCampus, and to find out more about the program, visit the webCampus website today.
