IVOTE4 encourages youth to vote on October 19
Toronto – October 14, 2015 – UFCW Canada youth activists have launched the IVOTE4 campaign, to encourage other youth to get out and vote on October 19. IVOTE4 poses one question for Canadian voters – What are you voting for?
The campaign is aimed to mobilize as many young eligible voters as possible to get out and vote, due to the fact that in 2011, only 39% of voters under the age of 25 actually cast a ballot. IVOTE4 hopes to expand youth voting participation by using various social media platforms and by visiting schools and campuses to encourage people to get out and vote, as well as to inform young voters on issues that may matter to them.
UFCW Canada youth activists from across the country have united in the campaign to encourage other youth to vote on October 19, and are encouraged that young voter interest appears to be rising.
"During the advance polling days, which took place over the Thanksgiving weekend, young people across Canada were taking a stand and voting," says UFCW Canada activists and IVOTE4 team member April Van Meesen. "Over 42,000 people voted early on university campuses and that's tremendously encouraging.”
